FBC Pictorial History

---

First Baptist Church of Alliance was founded in 1839 in what was then known as the village of Freedom. Meetings were held in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Mathias Hester, who along with the Israel Bolton and Elias Ellet families, were charter members of the Hester street congregation. The first church building, located on North Arch Avenue, was twice destroyed by tornadoes. In 1857, another site was secured, and a church was built on the corner of Freedom Ave. and Market St. in the heart of Alliance.

In the early 20th century, members of the congregation believed a larger, more impressive church building was needed. The new church was built on the same site in 1911. The congregation worshipped there until 1964, when we moved to our current location on West State Street.

First Baptist Church is the oldest continually active congregation in Alliance.

First Baptist Church is a congregation of Christian individuals who make up the local Body of Christ. The strength of our fellowship lies in the varied and unique backgrounds and gifts that each individual brings into this family. We are affiliated with American Baptist Churches USA, American Baptist Churches of Ohio, the Trumbull Baptist Association, and the Alliance of Churches.
